From Adversity to Achievement: Sabastian Mwaluko's Inspiring Journey
Meet Sabastian Mwaluko, a resilient 25-year-old hailing from Mtito-Andei ward, whose life story serves as a testament to the indomitable human spirit. Sabastian defied all odds to earn a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Chuka University, a feat made even more remarkable considering his challenging beginnings.
Born into poverty and a victim of parental divorce during his early childhood, Sabastian faced hardships that could have easily derailed his dreams. As the sixth born in a family of seven children, he, along with his siblings and mother, experienced rejection from their extended family, forcing them to seek refuge with his maternal grandmother. However, they were later ousted by their sister-in-law, who deemed them a burden.
The family eventually found solace on a small piece of land provided by Sabastian's grandmother, but poverty continued to cast its shadow. Sabastian vividly recalls the struggles: "I watched all my elder brothers and sisters miss even the basic education of primary school due to poverty. I watched my elder brother almost lose his left leg to an unknown disease, rumored to be witchcraft. I slept in an unroofed house, on the ground, as my mother sold everything to seek medication for my ailing brother. It was a devastating moment."
Despite financial challenges, Sabastian's determination to pursue education burned brightly. He faced obstacles, skipped classes in primary school due to lack of fees, and even attended a village secondary school for the same reason. His journey to university was paved with resilience and perseverance, navigating through thick and thin to achieve his academic goals.
In a candid interview, Sabastian shared, "I had to skip some classes in primary school due to lack of school fees. I went to a village secondary school due to lack of funds and managed my way to the university through thick and thin."
Today, Sabastian stands as a beacon of hope and success.
